Here are some of the vehicles I’ve used over the years, mostly for travels in the Sahara and which helped inform research for the Overlanders’ Handbook.
I’ve also owned or rented 40-, 70-, 80- and maybe even 100-series Land Cruisers in Australia and Egypt, Fords and Jeeps in Iceland and the US, Discovery 2s in Australia and years ago ran a Landrover 101 in Algeria.
Before that and before I knew much about anything, I also briefly owned a V8 110 but couldn’t afford to drive it anywhere, as well as a couple of 109” Land Rovers which proved too far gone for desert travels, as was an early, 7-cylinder Range Rover.
I
suppose my first car was a Holden Torana (like a Vauxhall Viva) bought when I knew nothing at all. I didn’t even know how to drive when I left Sydney, but got the hang of it by the time I reached Queensland.
